When Can You Get Pregnant
When Can You Get Pregnant – The Stages of Early Pregnancy
In the sex education class way back in your high school days, you are told by the teacher that you will get pregnant anytime you have sex. This misinformation was provided probably to let you wait for the right time when to have sex. However, recent studies show that that is not the case.
In order for a female to get pregnant, you need to have sex two to three days before the ovulation. These are the days wherein you are most fertile. After two or three days, the ovulated egg that is not fertilized will travel down to the uterus and will signal the pituitary gland of the brain to begin bleeding. Bleeding is the menstrual cycle that females experience. This is the time when the linings of the uterus degenerates. The blood that females see are actually the tissue linings of the uterus being discharged by the body since no fertilization took place. The lining of the uterus thickens to prepare it for potential implantation of a fertilized egg. In other words, it is prepared in case fertilization takes place. If no fertilization takes place, that is when the lining degenerates. This is the same for both regular menstrual cycle and irregular menstrual cycle. The only difference for the two are the tell tale signs and the consistency of the time for ovulation and bleeding to take place.
There are ways and different tell tale signs for you to know when you are fertile or not. You can monitor your cervical mucus discharge to check if it is the appropriate time to have sex. If you check that your mucus discharge is a bit runny, you’re not yet fertile. When it is thick and pasty, then go ahead and have sex if you want to be pregnant. Notice if you have increase sexual desire. If you have increased sexual desire, it is a strong sign that you are nearing ovulation. Other women also try to check their premenstrual syndrome. This is the case wherein you will experience physical symptoms that are related to normal ovulatory function.
Physical symptoms such as bloating or breast tenderness, insomnia, headache, fatigue, and mood swings are symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Once these symptoms show up, that would mean that bleeding is near and that you are fertile. If you don’t trust your body, you can also do counting of the days. Usually, menstrual cycles take 28 days. If yours is longer or shorter, it is okay because of the individual differences of the female human body. You can also try to feel if your cervix is higher, softer and more open. Your cervical position also changes together with the changes of your cervical mucus. Once you have felt the change in your cervical position (you can do that by feeling your cervix with your hand) and any of those three changes are present, then you are nearing ovulation. Have sex on that time and you have high chances of getting pregnant. But be cautious because these are usually seen in females who have regular cycles. If you have an irregular cycle, that’s a different story.
There are some women who do not have regular menstrual cycles. This happens when there is hormonal imbalance in your body which hinders your body from following a regular cycle. When you have irregular menstrual period, you cannot really tell when you are at peak or not. You will just be caught surprised when your period suddenly starts. There are times that the number of days for bleeding is not consistent as well. If you have this irregular cycle and you don’t want to get pregnant, you are always at risk for pregnancy when you engage in unprotected sex.
Even if you have irregular menstrual cycle, you can still try to check if you are nearing ovulation. You can follow the usual signs of ovulation but do not be mislead because there are times that they are just normal bodily changes not related to ovulation. If you really want to get pregnant, you should try having sex as often as possible. That does not necessarily mean that you are to have sex every day. It simply means that you have sex around two to three times a week. This will increase your chances of conceiving. Sperm cells can still survive inside the female human body for 24 to 48 hours.
So, if you want to get pregnant, have sex two or three days before your bleeding starts. If you don’t want to be pregnant, don’t have sex on those days. However, you don’t have a regular cycle and you can’t really tell when you are fertile or not, just pray on luck that you will get pregnant or not. Also try to check if you have a regular menstrual cycle. Having a regular menstrual cycle can help you time more accurately when you are more susceptible to becoming pregnant.
